On the prowl for Issue 2 contributors- Due: March 15

Join the editorial staff of a contemporary new magazine that focuses on simplifying and enhancing the LDS lifestyle. Since spiritual matters are well covered by official church sources, this magazine will cover the other 6 days of the week. Throw out the clichés and help us write about the profound and funny aspects of life, family and the world around us. We’re looking for talented writers, editors, and illustrators to submit stories, work samples and ideas that reflect a wide range of LDS lifestyles.

What you do:

Editors:

Email a resume and samples. We follow A.P. style.

Illustrators & Photographers:

Email samples and once approved we’ll supply you with an article to illustrate.

Writers: Email topics that grab your passion and have some application for an LDS audience. Explore the subjects listed in the menu to gather ideas. Can’t narrow it down? Contact me and I’ll suggest a few favorites. You might also consider presenting a regular column, such as monthly product/book/or Netflix review.

What you get:

Work will be published and you will be invited to contribute to subsequent installments. You will also be profiled in our “Profiles” section where you can promote your blog, store or company. Contributing to 6 of 7 is an excellent way to build your portfolio, develop an audience, promote your company and get in on the launch of a new magazine.

What it is:

Useful, thought-provoking, fun, sophisticated and slightly edgy. We’d love to hear more about cultures, places and traditions other than our own. Especially if they give us insight to ours.

What it is not:

Cute, homespun, cliché (unless it’s in a retro, etsy kind of way), full of church doctrine or a direct missionary platform.

Target audience:

LDS, although most articles will be useful for anyone who enjoys reading about family values and a life well lived.

How it works:6 of 7 will launch as an online bi-month e-zine, transform into a pdf magazine, and eventually expand into print. Advertisers are welcome. Once the subscriber and advertising money comes in, paid contributers will too. Most articles will be professionally illustrated or photographed.

More about our editorial mission:

The LDS lifestyle has a number of innate modern-day challenges that we’d like to address. Larger families, less money, little time, one income, morals, perceptions, food storage, missions, LDS cultural clichés, or exclusions. These are the issues we’d like you to incorporate in some way (even in passing) into your articles.

This is not the place for church doctrine or spiritual guidance. For instance, if you’d like to write about food storage your article might include tips for improving food storage—but not the reasons why. Assume your audience already understands and supports similar objectives.Essays should be between 500-2,500 words, depending on the topic. Please review your work and ensure that it is either thought-provoking, new, humorous or in some way entertaining.

We’re looking for fresh voices, with an open attitude to the being in the world around them. All work should be original or approved, and will be reviewed and edited.

Issue 2 writers will be announced March 15, 2010.Interested? Contact us.
